Fall
Creek Vineyards began in 1975 as an ambitious project to determine
whether high quality wine grapes could be grown on our Fall Creek Ranch in the Texas Hill Country. My initial
curiosity for the project was sparked when I noticed that the soil, terrain and
microclimate surrounding our ranch were remarkably similar to parts of the French wine
country. After a few short years, it became very clear that the high caliber of Fall Creek
grapes could result in the production of top quality wine. Based upon this, Fall Creek
Vineyards was formed as a small, completely integrated vineyard and winery operation. It
has continued to grow dramatically in size, quality, production and recognition. From its inception over twenty years ago, Fall
Creek Vineyards has made an unwavering commitment to quality. Our mission is to harmonize
the best European wine making techniques with the technological wine making innovations of
California and the remarkable potential of our Texas Hill Country grapes in an effort to
produce world-class wines.
To date, pursuit of production excellence has put
Fall Creek Vineyards at the forefront of the Texas wine industry, not only in terms of
awards and recognition received, but also in terms of success in the marketplace. Demand
for Fall Creek wines greatly exceeds supply both in Texas and out-of-state markets. I only
hope to be blessed with this same success as Fall Creek Vineyards continues to grow in its
quest to make truly world-class wines.
The
"Hill Country" is Texas Wine Country
Fall Creek Vineyards is located in one premier viticultural regions, the Texas Hill
Country. This region is a portion of a large plateau in Central and West Central Texas
that has been eroded by numerous spring-fed streams and other geological forces to create
an area of rocky hills and fertile valleys. It is Texas' most geologically and
climatically diverse region, with countless soil varieties providing ideal microclimates
for growing the finest grapes.
Soil and Climate
Situated on the northwestern shores of
Lake Buchanan between ranges of limestone and granite hills in Llano County, Fall Creek
Vineyards occupies a unique portion of the Texas Hill Country. The soil is primarily sandy
loam underlain by chalk and clay. The normal growing season, which follows a hot day/cool
night pattern, is aided by the dry prevailing breezes off the eight-mile expanse of Lake
Buchanan. This area, which has consistently produced award-winning wines, is rapidly
achieving national and international renown.
