The Highland Lakes located in the
Texas Hill Country are a stair-cased set of seven lakes -- Buchanan, Inks, Lyndon B.
Johnson (LBJ), Marble Falls, Travis, Austin, and Town Lake -- that were created in the
1930s on the Colorado River for flood control, electricity and recreation.
The lakes begin in Llano and Burnet Counties and traverse
the Hill Country all the way to Austin. They are administered by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for the State of
Texas. They are renowned for their beauty, tranquility and excellent boating and fishing.
